Graduation Photography in Dundee: Package Costs and What You Get
In the UK, official ceremony photography booked through the university costs £50–£150 and produces 2–5 images taken during the ceremony itself. An independent portrait session booked separately costs £150–£300 and delivers 20–50 edited images across multiple setups. In Dundee, portrait sessions with Yomaria Shots start from £150.
Official Ceremony Photography
Most UK universities contract a single photographer to cover graduation ceremonies. They photograph each graduate as they receive their award, and in a designated portrait spot immediately after. Packages are sold in advance and typically include:
- 2–5 images from the ceremony and portrait spot
- Online gallery with print ordering
- Digital downloads at £50–£120 depending on resolution and number of images
- Print packages from £60 upwards
Each graduate gets two to four minutes. The light is fixed, there is a queue, and direction is minimal. You leave with 2–5 images that document the day.
Independent Portrait Sessions
An independent photographer books a separate session with you, typically the morning before the ceremony, the evening after, or on a nearby date. You have 45 minutes to two hours, multiple outfit options if you want them, and a photographer whose job is to make you look good rather than move the queue along.
A graduation portrait session produces images for your LinkedIn, your CV, and your family. Yomaria runs these as full portrait sessions: direction on every shot, multiple setups, proper light.
| Option | Typical cost | Images delivered | Session time |

| Both combined | £200–£400 | 25–55 images | Full day coverage |
What Affects the Price
Session length and image count are the two biggest factors. A 45-minute session delivering 15 edited images costs less than a two-hour session delivering 40. Other factors that move the price:
- Location: Studio sessions are typically included in the session fee. On-location shoots may carry a travel cost if outside Dundee.
- Number of people: Including family members or a partner extends the session and changes the package.
- Prints: Digital files are usually included. Framed prints are priced separately.
- Turnaround: Standard delivery is one to two weeks. Rush delivery, if offered, costs more.
Studio or Outdoors in Dundee?
The studio gives you consistent light regardless of weather and a clean background that puts the focus on you and the gown. Outdoor sessions use Dundee's locations: the waterfront, the V&A, the University of Dundee campus, and the Botanical Gardens all photograph well. If your ceremony is at Caird Hall, the surrounding streets work well for portraits too.
Most graduates book a studio session for the formal portraits and use a short outdoor segment for lifestyle shots. Yomaria plans the session to cover both in one booking.
When to Book in Dundee
University of Dundee and Abertay University graduation ceremonies run from late June through July. Photographers in Dundee fill quickly during this period. Book two to three weeks before your ceremony date.
Booking earlier also gives time to plan outfits, discuss locations, and receive Yomaria's preparation guide before the session.
What to Wear
Bring the cap and gown. The outfit underneath needs to be well-fitted and in a solid colour — busy prints compete with the gown and pull attention. If you're bringing family members or a partner into the shots, coordinate loosely without matching exactly.
Yomaria sends a preparation guide with every booking covering outfit direction, what to bring, and what to expect on the day.
